Week 74: I'm Spanish Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello family!
Sorry things are all messed up! some HUGE changes have happened. I don't know where to begin. Sorry I didn't email yesterday, we had too much to do so it got cut first. I'm not sure if you're counting anymore but last week was transfers. I'm guessing you stopped keeping track. I did too. but I'm now Spanish again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT pretty crazy. I'm in probably the most Hispanic area in the mission. Its small enough to be a bike area.  It was a bike area before, but because we are zone leaders they give us a car....well actually a van. haha. YES I take pride in our 2013 Dodge Caravan. ha. We only use it when we have to go to meetings and church though.
It's a little rough on my Spanish but it is coming back quicker than I thought, but I also thought it would take forever!!! And another thing that is going to help my Spanish is my companion. His name is Elder Leiva. He is from Santiago, Chile! He is really sweet! I've never really served around him but yesterday was a good day.  I'm excited for this transfer. My new area is almost right below Denver Harbor. Just across the Bayou. We switch every day at 2 what language we talk in so we both can have help. I'm really excited for the Spanish I'm going to learn. This is the area were you won't see a white person. period. so I'm pretty excited. No me callen bien.
My new address is:

 Elder Ethan Erickson
6527 Miraglen #211
Houston, TX 77023

Its a complete switch. In everything. language. From a sweet set up living to a....sweet set up! haha ;)  from the largest zone to the smallest. We still have 26 but its smaller than the rest.

As for my last week in Pine Trails we had some sweet things. On Sunday Shirley was there. We ended up pushing her date back one week so now we have set the 9th on June for her baptism. We had so much to teach we didn't want to rush things, everything is pretty important. Spencer and Ashley also showed up! We didn't even get to see them this last week but they still showed up! They left right as sacrament got over so we didn't get to talk to them but when I texted them to say bye they invited us over on Monday so we went out there for a few minutes to say bye. Its sad we had to give them to the sisters. Sisters are being put in Crosby so we wont get to teach them. As well as with Daniel and Francis. They live in Crosby as well and also came to church. IT was AMAZING. Daniel came in a white shirt  and tie and his hair was even slicked back!!!! haha I wish I had a picture of him so show you! not the kind of guy to do that. So it was a good way to go out!
We aren't taking a ton of time so ask questions of things I forgot and I'll try and answer them.

Week 73: John 3:16 "I Know"

Hey family!
I'm spending too much time looking at the pictures I was sent today! So many memories, as much as I hate pictures they sure are fun to look at! but I have a great story I would like to share today!

This last little bit has been a little slow as far as the "Miracles" go that just get you pumped up for missionary work. We have been drawing blanks for the past few "hour of power" sessions. I was thinking of the scriptures in Moroni about the only reason for they're not to be miracles is because of our faith. So I was blaming myself a bit. I felt that I had faith and in my past area I felt their were more miracles then I could write down every week!...so that night, Thursday, I was praying about it and thinking about it a lot.
I Love how quick God answers our prayers. That next morning during companion study, which was short because we had district meetings to attend. We got a call from Shirley Johnson. She was an investigator we were teaching about a month ago. We went through lessons 1, 2 and 3 fairly fast. She studied the pamphlets really well and she knew things before we came so teaching was great with her, until one day she texted us and told us not to come by anymore and that she was just going to "read on her own" aka forget all of it and never read again - or so I thought. When we answered the phone she said "would y'all have time to come back and visit me? I want to study with you again"....I was amazed!!!
We made some changes in our plans and went that afternoon. When we got there we asked her what made her want to call us back and she said how she "felt" that she needed to read the book and study with us again. and also how she "wanted to go through with the baptism" and then she joked how she "kinda missed the date we had set" She is a 50 year old lady who likes cowboys/girls and motorcycles and camping and fishing, real down to earth lady. She is awesome! I Love her!
She came to church and got along great with the members. They talked a lot about sealings and temples in the 3rd hour. We had 5 new faces at church so it was a lot of questions after church! haha sound familiar to the Ortega's?? haha

We also had a lesson with Tim...He is a tough cookie. We had a long lesson on the "Love of God" and "How to know He Loves us" it was very deep. I feel so bad for Tim not having that Knowledge. I Know my Heavenly Father Loves me. I Know it without a doubt and I know nothing will ever change that! For anyone who care say they KNOW he loves them then I give you the same commitment we gave Tim JOHN 3:16. A scripture that has been used to much it almost doesn't have the same meaning. But read it. Every night before you go to bed. Then in your prayers try and really understand it! Tim says you can also break everything down with the question WHY?...so ask yourself why God loves you!

Week 72: Mother's Day Phone Call

Well Family,
It was great to talk to you! I loved hearing every one's voice, even if some of you barley talked! but I don't really know what to say in the letter now!....When we went back to dinner it just felt like I got to talk to you all the time and that it wasn't even a "twice a year" event to talk on the phone. I really enjoyed it though!
Today is zone p-day again...these are the worst part of being a zone leader, so we're jetting pretty quick!
I Love you all! Think about ya everyday!!!!

Elder Erickson gave his email for this week personally in his phone call. He called from the Webb's house.  He was very grateful that they had invited the missionaries over to call their families and have dinner with them. He said what a  "sweet family" the Webb's are. He said that it is pretty crazy to think of all the "cool" people he has met.
He told of a tender mercy the Lord gave him earlier that day -
He and his companion went to the church for Correlation and Ward Council  meeting.  They had not thought it through that the meetings were canceled because of Mother's Day.  They were at the church at 11:00.  The ward from Elder Erickson's  first area meets in the same building and gets to see people from his first area each week.  Their Sacrament meeting starts at 11:00 and  the Ortega Family was speaking and since his meetings were canceled he was able to go to the sacrament meeting and hear the Ortega family speak. He said that they gave really good talks.  Hno. Ortega said that his wife said everything that he was supposed to say but he went on and gave a really good talk, just going with what the spirit prompted him to say.
Elder Erickson has really been blessed to find, teach and watch the Ortega family  grow in the gospel.  The Ortega's will be able to go to the temple in a month and Elder Erickson will be able to go with them.
Elder Erickson loves being a missionary. There are many people that he as grown to love!

It was great to put the phone on speaker and sit in a circle around the phone and have a family chat with Elder Erickson.  He says "ya'll" a lot but is fighting to not pick up the word " fixn' ".

Week 71: Senaida's Baptism

Dear Family!
First off Mom happy birthday yesterday!!!!!! Sorry it's late but I hope you had a great day! I Love you so much! I was thinking a lot about you all day and how amazing you are and how blessed I am. A couple things came to mind. One from Pres. Pomeroy, doctrine wizard talking about blacks not having the priesthood and those in China and other parts of the world too. He said "God knows what he is doing and he puts certain people in certain places for a reason. He is going to do for ever single person what is best for them because he loves them and wants to give them the best chance they can have to return to him." I know that God putting me in the family He did, with the mother I have was the best possible place for me! And I wouldn't be where I am without you Mommy! Thank you for everything! and also another saying "Be the missionaries your mother thinks you are." I know you wouldn't let me off lightly because you love me! and I really try to be the missionary you think I am and then more! I know its not much but this was my gift to you. Happy birthday! and Happy Mothers day! I LOVE YOU!
I know this is the letter to everyone but I want everyone to know how great you are so share it with everyone that I have an amazing mother, even if she is 51 ;)

So this week was a great week in the missionary work! We had lot's of great lessons and found some great people!
But the story I want to tell you is about Senaida's baptism!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was one of the most spiritual baptisms for me! They all are, but it was probably because I didn't have to worry about a thing but feeling the spirit!
As soon as I walked into the chapel Senaida saw me and jumped up and gave me a huge hug!!!  Sin verguenza (without shame) I gave her a huge one back! She is such special lady! I wish you could have seen her the day we found her, and her trailer. You never would guess the heart and desire that this lady had to follow the Lord by looking at her! haha
I Love how the gospel changes people, No matter who they are.  I just read in Alma 15 today about Zeezrom and the changed that he had. Being the Chief prosecutor, to getting kicked out of town because he believed and tried to help other understand! It can change everyone!
It was so great to see everyone from the branch....when leaving I felt the most homesick I've been since transfer 2! but not for y'all - sorry, But for that branch! That is my home! I Love it there so much and wish I could go back!!! that's where I truly fell in love with the mission! So seeing all of them, Morales's and Ruiz's and Solis!... it was tough leaving!

For phone call I will probably just call from Bro. Jenks (the member we are living with) house. So I'll call, then you can call me right back! But we wont have a ton of time so everyone write down questions and things to say ;)

Love you all! Talk to you Sunday!!!     :)    Looking forward to it!

Con amor y Respeto
